DjangoCon Dublin
DjangoCon Dublin was my second DjangoCon that I attended, and I summarized my experience.
Django Girls Workshop
A huge thank you to Vicky Twomey-Lee for organizing such an amazing event. We discussed the involvement of women in tech and shared our thoughts on fostering greater inclusion. Special thanks go to the coaches and volunteers: Raul, Michael, Samson, Vishal, Andrea, and to all who participate. Together, we formed a wonderful team, united in our shared goal: to enjoy Python and Django.
This workshop means a lot to me because I know how important it can be to encourage you during your path, even before you find yourself capable of pursuing your desired path. There may be many obstacles along the way, but having a supportive community that cheers you up can really make a difference. Before finding the courage to ask for help, you need to feel included, even if you're asking a question that has been asked countless times. Otherwise, there will be no questions, just one question asked of yourself: "Do I really belong here?" I would reply that out loud: "Yes! We were waiting for you! We're happy to have you here." So, a great thank you to all who attended, because we truly were waiting for each and every one of you 🧡
People
- Someone I met for the first time.
- Someone I reconnected with after Django Day Copenhagen.
- Someone I found the courage to talk to: Emma Delescolle, who presented Calico SSG, which I’m excited to try.
- Someone I had previously met online and finally met in person.
- Someone I met at DjangoCon in Vigo, and seeing them again felt like no time had passed.
Every person I met in Dublin is a vital part of the Django community, continuously welcoming and inviting new members, just like me.
Something new
- Choosing the
BigIntegerField
, instead of theIntegerField
, earlier could be crucial for an unexpectedly growing table. But what happens if you didn't predict the future? We followed the conversion process. - Passkeys can be used as a primary authentication method in Django, as presented in a lightning talk in Dublin. Here the repo.
- Django met Data Science in a keynote, where an example of a flowers dataset is given to Django that can receive some user data and then make a prediction about the type of flower.
- A splendid call to action for the first keynote in Dublin that inspired many people during the sprint to start reviewing PR.
Birthday celebration
Django is celebrating its 20th birthday, and there was a lot of partying in Dublin and a birthday cake with candles to celebrate such an achievement. What a great party 🎂
Conclusions
I learned a lot from the talks, but I know I still have much to learn. I can't wait to see the video of the talk to see what I could have missed.
